Buyer seeks geotechnical engineering services for nine storm damage repair sites located throughout Santa Cruz County. The work involves assessing damage, determining failure causes, and recommending repair methods for roadway and shoulder slip-outs caused by heavy rainfall. Services must comply with Caltrans Local Assistance Procedures Manual and federal regulations as projects are primarily funded by FHWA. Consultant will conduct field exploration, laboratory testing, and prepare comprehensive geotechnical reports to support design and construction.

- Conduct field/subsurface exploration at nine storm damage sites
- Perform laboratory testing of soil and material samples
- Investigate at least three repair methods per site
- Develop retaining wall design criteria and construction guidance
- Prepare comprehensive geotechnical reports with repair recommendations
- Recommend most feasible and cost-effective repair methods
- Analyze slope stability and failure mechanisms
- Determine CIDH pile diameter, spacing and embedment requirements
- Provide specifications for wall drainage and backfill
- Evaluate environmental impacts of proposed repair methods
- Assess existing utilities prior to ground-disturbing activities
- Provide construction support services during implementation
- Develop excavation and shoring requirements including maximum cut slopes
- Create soil nail/ground-anchor recommendations where applicable
- Review County design plans for compliance with recommendations
- Participate in design coordination meetings
- Evaluate rock slope protection (RSP) gravity wall requirements
- Provide betterment justification documentation for FHWA approval
- Analyze seismic loading factors for repair structures
- Complete required Federal-Aid documentation and compliance reporting
