Development of an Armenian American Los Angeles Historic Context Statement

Buyer seeks a consultant to develop an Armenian American Los Angeles Historic Context Statement and prepare two Historic-Cultural Monument nominations. The project will document the history and cultural significance of Armenian American communities in Los Angeles from the late 19th century to present day. The context statement will identify key historical themes, significant individuals, groups, and organizations, and develop a framework for evaluating historic resources. USC Dornsife Institute of Armenian Studies will serve as a paid subconsultant for this project.

  • Must be prequalified on Historic Preservation Studies bench list (RAMPLA #31344)
  • Project managers must meet Secretary of Interior's Professional Qualification Standards
  • Experience developing historic context statements using National Register standards
  • Familiarity with Los Angeles Citywide Historic Context Statement
  • Experience implementing community engagement strategies for historic preservation
  • Knowledge of Armenian American history in Los Angeles
  • Complete background research on Armenian American communities in Los Angeles
  • Develop and implement a community engagement strategy
  • Collaborate with USC Dornsife Institute of Armenian Studies
  • Create preliminary list of designated historic resources
  • Prepare work plan and outline for historic context statement
  • Develop narrative for the historic context statement
  • Complete reconnaissance survey of known resources to assess integrity
  • Prepare DPR forms for extant individual resources
  • Create two Historic-Cultural Monument nominations
  • Present nominations before the Cultural Heritage Commission
  • Develop research questions and collect oral interviews
  • Format document consistent with SurveyLA standards
  • Identify significant locations, buildings, landscapes related to Armenian American history
  • Develop evaluation standards for property types
  • Identify ethnic and cultural themes related to Armenian American experience
  • Coordinate with OHR on obtaining owner support for nominations
  • Prepare PowerPoint presentations for Cultural Heritage Commission hearings
  • Document architectural and historical significance of selected properties
  • Develop historical overview including periods of significance
  • Integrate translated materials from Armenian language sources
