West Hempstead Union Free School District

Buyer seeks a qualified and experienced independent audit firm to conduct an annual financial audit and Federal Single audit if necessary. The services will cover the fiscal year ending June 30, 2026, with option to extend for four additional years through June 30, 2030. The audits must be conducted in accordance with requirements of law and regulations of the Commissioner of Education and Office of the State Comptroller. Buyer requires both preliminary audit work before fiscal year end and final fieldwork completed by August 31st annually.

• 8/31/2026 - Fieldwork Completion Deadline
• 10/15/2026 - Audit Report Filing Deadline
• 3/31/2027 - Federal Single Audit Deadline

• Sufficient size to ensure stability and responsiveness
• Staff with experience in government auditing
• Experience auditing local governments and school districts
• Meeting continuing professional education requirements
• Participation in a quality control program by peers

• Conduct annual financial audit for fiscal year ending June 30, 2026
• Perform Federal Single audit if necessary
• Prepare financial statements and Management Letter
• Present findings to Audit Committee
• Test transactions prior to fiscal year close
• Issue opinion on financial statements
• Document material weaknesses in internal control
• Provide recommendations for financial management improvement
• Deliver 15 printed copies of all reports
• Provide electronic PDF copies of all reports
• Present findings at Board of Education public meeting if requested
• Complete Federal Single Audit before March 31st deadline
• Submit Audit Plan to Audit Committee by May 31
• Provide ongoing advice and counsel throughout contract term
• Retain working papers for minimum of three years
• Follow all relevant accounting and auditing standards
• Complete fieldwork by August 31st annually
• Maintain same staff throughout preliminary and final audit work
• Upload Federal audit to required Federal website
• Rectify deficiencies with appropriate agencies
