Department of Hawaiian Home Lands

The buyer seeks grant proposals to support new projects, programs, and services for Hawaiian Homes Commission Act beneficiaries statewide. Projects must improve existing homestead services and benefit DHHL lessees. The buyer encourages partnerships between beneficiaries and non-beneficiaries. Proposals must demonstrate beneficiary involvement in identifying needs and planning the project. The grant period is for six years with a maximum award of $200,000 per project.

  • Organization serves majority HHCA beneficiaries
  • Current DHHL land disposition in good standing, if applicable
  • Good standing with any open DHHL grants
  • IRS tax-exempt nonprofit status or registered Hawaii nonprofit
  • Ability to track and verify DHHL lessees served
  • Improve, strengthen and/or expand existing homestead services
  • Serve DHHL homestead lessees
  • Implement project aligned with DHHL Regional Plan priorities
  • Develop community outreach plan
  • Track and verify DHHL lessees served by project
  • Submit quarterly reports and financial reports
  • Present project progress to Hawaiian Homes Commission
  • Develop sustainability plan for project after grant period
  • Partner with homestead community-based associations
  • Involve beneficiaries in project planning and implementation
